The slogan "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should" appeared in newspaper, magazine, radio and TV ads from 1954 until 1972.

This slogan was featured in a jingle ghost-written by Margaret Johnson and her husband Travis and recorded by their group The Song Spinners. The Winston jingle was rated eights-best by American Age magazine in 1999.

In September 1954 Pittsburg Post-Gazette printed the first ad for Winston cigarettes. The second appeared in Life magazine a month later.

A year later Winston brand sponsored Walter Cronkite's news show and Garry Moor's variety show.

Winston cigarettes also sponsored TV shows such as The Flintstones and The Beverly Hillbillies. Later on Wilma and Fred Flintstones "shot" a Winston commercial.

Some remember the Winston jingle until this day because its appearance on The Flintstones. And also because just before "a cigarette" there were two catchy claps that made the jingle memorable.
