R.J Reynolds is one of the largest cigarette manufacturers in the world and the second largest company in the US. It was founded by R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1954 RJR introduced Winston cigarette brand which became an instant hit – the best-selling cigarette brand in the US.
RJR started out as a relatively small company in the second half of the 19th century which due to the vision and innovation of its owners and executives grew bigger and richer. And indeed this factory was a vision: when this tobacco company began turning sizable profits (due to modern machinery, equipment and use of electricity), it purchased near-by small tobacco companies, modernizing them and increasing production. RJR even build a neighborhood for its workers offering them housing for a cost price.
The spirit of innovation didn't stop with the factories, however. RJR contributed a lot to the taste and the overall look of modern cigerette – cork-tipped filter, menthol, slims and so on.
