Originally, Pall Mall was produced by Butler & Butler Company which goal was to provide upper class smokers with upscale cigarettes. Butler & Butler was purchased by the American Tobacco Company which much later sold the brand to Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. The latter in turn merged with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company that currently manufactures Pall Mall cigarettes in USA only. Outside US Pall Malls are produced and sold by British American Tobacco.
Since RJR owns this brand for a relatively short while, Pall Mall is currently in “the growth brand” portfolio. It should be notes that Pall Mall has always been about innovation and RJR is closely familiar with this concept setting about every packaging standard: 20-cigarette pack, 10-pack carton, cellophane wrapper and cork-tipped filter. Besides, RJR invented the first US menthol unfiltered and filtered cigarette: KOOL (1933) and Salem (1956) respectively. By the way both brands are still on the market! If it’s not enough, Capri (1987) the first super-slim cigarette was also born in RJR labs.
