Cold Turkey

Cold turkey is the method used by many smokers to quit smoking. This method means reducing the amount of nicotine intake to zero in a day. There is no forethought and no plans, just abrupt stop to smoking.

The people who opt for cold turkey do not take any chewing or nicotine replacements. This is the most popular way people, yet this is not such a successful rate. Most of the people who give up smoking by cold turkey again take up cigarettes after some time, or their condition can get even worse.

There sever nicotine withdrawal symptoms and can be very bad for the body. As your body is accustomed to say 10 cigarettes a day, reducing them to zero has a very harmful effect.

You can improve your chances for permanently quitting with the cold turkey method if you follow a few guidelines:
You will have to be very patient and very much determined.  Before taking this road, it is good that you make a list of the things that motivate you to give up smoking, whenever you feel a strong desire to smoke, look at the list, and think about the motivation.

You will have to tolerate nicotine withdrawal symptoms that will include nausea, headache etc.
You should drink a lot of water; it will keep your body in a better state.
Use some non-nicotine chewing or something that can keep you busy. You can use a pencil or a pen and pretend to smoke, or you can divert your attention to some game.

When you feel an urge too strong, call a friend, or get someone to talk to you. It will divert your attention from the cigarette.
The cold turkey method does not cost anything and does not require any special things except will power and determination.
