The name Lucky Strike is not taken from the world of bowling, no. It carries a reference to the Golden Rush days – people who found a rich gold deposit were said to make a "lucky strike".

An urban legend about Luckies has it that one pack in twenty or one carton in twenty has a marijuana joint in it.

Lucky Strike was the first brand that connected weight loss to smoking. So Luckies were marketed as a diet aid appealing to women. The ad campaign was promoting smoking as a weapon against sweets craving with a slogan "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet".

Lucky Strike brand had special Christmas ads with a couple sitting around the Christmas tree opening cartons of Lucky Strikes cigarettes (cartons, by the way, were also especially designed for the holiday season).

In 2007 Luckies used He Pingping, the world's smallest man, in their ad campaign.

Some major Hollywood stars used to promote Luckies – Hedy Lamarr, Rita Gam, Spencer Tracy, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawfors, and … even Santa Claus. That's right, smoking Santa.

Be happy – Go Lucky! (Another catchy slogan used to say)
