Cigarette Ban In Bars - Reaction

Recently, this year Governor Mark Parkinson signed a new bill and according to this bill, smoking would be ban in working areas as well as restaurants and bars.

The bill turned into a law as of July 1st. Following this legislation, many of the bar owners said that they are afraid that they will lose business as most of people who go to bars smoke, some go to bars with friends, just to have quality time along with smoking some cigarettes. The bar owners said that they are willing to do anything to protect their business from going down.

Not only the bar owners but also the customers are against this new law. For example a bar customer said that he only smokes when he drinks beer, therefore he is much against this ban. Smoking was banned in Lawrence and Johnson County cities, so, De Soto is one of the few places where is intended to ban smoking too.

However, there are some bar owners, who say that this will not affect their businesses as they are private. For example, a woman bar owner said, “I do not agree with this ban. When you have your own business, you should have also the right to decide where to smoke and where not, because everybody has the right to choose,” she said.

For the non-smokers, this legislation is neither good nor bad. They say that they do not have any problem if they are sitting in a bar and a person is smoking near them. It is very common to the masses that second hand smoke is more dangerous than smoking but they believe that a bar is a place meant for people to drink and to smoke without the fear of being caught. If the government would put a ban on smoking in bars, bars will become meaningless.
