Big Island: Ban On Smoking In Car

Recently, a new law has been approved in big island. According to the law if there is a kid in the car a person cannot smoke.

According to the resources, Mayor Billy Kenoi signed the bill on the May 10 and it was implemented from August 8th. This rule prohibits the use of cigarettes in cars, public buildings, restaurant, bars, and other such places.

The government says that the only motive to enforce this law is to keep the young ones from passive smoking and second hand cigarette smoke. Hawaii County has also prohibited smoking while driving if there are minors in the vehicle.

Along with the protection of children, the Hawaii government believes that this ban will also prevent car accidents. I must say here, that it is allowed to smoke if there is no child in the car.

The police says that it would be very difficult to enforce this law because there are cars with tinted windows, though they are trying their best to imply the car smoking ban.

Many of the doctors claim that it is a good way to protect the minors from second hand smoke. They say the second hand smoke can have effects worse than direct smoking. As in a car, there is very less space for smoke to exit therefore the smoke has even worse effects than in the open.

However, the smokers do not agree with the ban, they say that cars are personal places, just as homes and one can smoke at a personal place. Smokers say that a car-ban is a very heavy-handed step to stop smoking. They want this law to be removed.

Ban or no-ban it is the duty of parents to protect their child from anything, which is harmful.  They should specially take care of not smoking at enclosed places if their kids are with them.
